Havana Grill serves big, cheap breakfast items

avana Grill just celebrated its first anniversary, and if you still haven’t been by for authentic Colorado Springs, CO-Cuban food, you’re missing something special. The owners source key ingredients from Colorado Springs, CO, like Cuban pastries, and make coffee drinks with the classic Café Bustelo beans. Since my last visit they obtained a liquor license and now offer a small range of mojitos, popular at new Friday karaoke nights, the cashier says. But I’m in for a to-go breakfast at the 8 a.m. opening hour, selecting from a small, six-item morning menu — affordable, like the wider menu, especially considering generous portions.

I can only guess how many eggs compose my $5.49 breakfast sandwich, a simple construction of fluffy, ham-flecked scrambled eggs (bacon being the other option) on soft, thin pan Cubano. Seasoning is scant so I hit it with Tapatío when I reach my office (yeah I’m the guy who keeps hot sauce in my desk drawer), and give away half the sandwich because the other half’s plenty for me.

The item includes a small Café Cubano, which sips notably toasty dark and quite sweet from what tastes like two cubes of sugar, which is to say true to form and a nice little treat.
